Ecoegg Laundry Detergent Egg: How does the laundry egg work?

Not sure what our laundry egg is or how to use it? Don’t worry, we’ve put together a guide that will help you with all you need to know about our nifty little eggs.

Ecoegg Laundry Detergent Egg

The general gist is, our Laundry Detergent Egg is a refillable egg case which houses two types of pellets, the white laundry pellets and the black tourmaline pellets. We’ll expand on both further down. The pellets are designed to wear down overtime meaning one refill will last you up to 70 washes.

Refilling your Egg is simple, we offer refills on our website, and you can find them in several stores across the UK.

How does the Laundry Detergent Egg work?

Before you place your order, you might be wondering how the egg works, if it’s right for you or if it’s suitable for sensitive skin.  If that sounds about right, don’t worry we’ll take the time to explain it all. Let’s start with the science behind our pellets.

White detergent pellets

The detergent pellets contain ingredients made from low irritant surfactants. Surfactants are molecules with one end that’s attracted to water and another end that’s attracted to dirt and grease.

They act like magnets, with one end pulling in water and the other pulling in dirt and grease. This helps to break up and remove stains and grime from your clothes.

If you live in a hard water area, our washing pellets also contain an ingredient designed to help soften water in hard water areas.

Black tourmaline pellets

The black tourmaline pellets complement the white detergent pellets.  They reduce the surface tension of the water, working alongside the surfactants in the white pellets. By lowering the surface tension, the water becomes “wetter,” which means it can penetrate textile fibres more effectively, improving the cleaning process.

Tourmaline pellets naturally ionize the water, making it slightly more alkaline. Alkaline water is better at lifting dirt and stains from fabrics, improving the overall cleaning efficiency.

Our dedication to allergy prone and sensitive skin

Ecoegg was born after our founder, Dawn, faced her own struggles with eczema. After years of using detergent filled with harsh chemicals and nasties which was often the cause of her eczema flare ups, Dawn decided that enough was enough and thus Ecoegg was born.

All our fragrances have been specially developed to be low irritant and low allergen. They are dermatologically tested, rated as ‘excellent’ on sensitive skin, making them suitable for both young skin as well as sensitive and allergy prone skin.
