FAQS ABOUT OUR LAUNDRY PRODUCTS
Brain feeling scrambled? Our little eggs are a bundle of fun once you get the gist, but here are some pointers to help you out.
The ecoegg Laundry Egg contains non bio, refillable laundry detergent and replaces fabric conditioner. There are two types of pellets included – white washing pellets and black tourmaline pellets, which work together to clean your clothes. The surfactant molecules in our formula help water to take hold of the dirt and grease, break it up, and wash it away from your clothes. The black tourmaline pellets naturally ionise the water, making it slightly more alkaline. Alkaline water helps to lift dirt more effectively. Read more here about the science behind your egg.
You will need to refill your egg roughly every 2 months, depending on 3 factors:
- Whether you are using the original 70 wash egg or 50 refills
- How often you put a load of laundry on each week
- Which washing machine cycle you typically use – hotter cycles will use the pellets more quickly
Open the Laundry Egg to check the pellet size, making sure the pellets are sat in the larger half of the egg. Be careful when opening so that the pellets don’t spill out! Have a look at the inside of the larger Laundry Egg half. The pellets will have reduced in size.
If you are using the original 70 wash Laundry Egg Pellets and they have fallen below the lower ridge, where the coloured plastic and white plastic meet, it is time to buy some ecoegg Refill Pellets! If you are using the 50 wash Refill Pellets, look in between the ridges. There is an indentation in the middle of the top set of vents. If they have fallen below this indentation, it is time to refill. Take a look at our instructions to help.
If you are noticing a smell, this is perfectly normal when switching from chemically laden detergents to an ecoegg Laundry Egg. Excess detergent build up can start to rot inside your machine. With traditional detergents, these are heavily fragranced which masks this smell. The ecoegg Laundry Eggs are lightly fragranced to be gentle on sensitive skin. We recommend using an award-winning ecoegg Washing Machine Detox Tablet to clean your washing machine to help remove build up from detergent and bad odours, as this can transfer to clothes.
This little egg remains cool in all washes up to 60°C, working well in COLD washes too, helping you reduce energy consumption. Our egg is effective in temperatures as low as 15°C.
It is also suitable for handwashing. Soak your clothes in the sink or bath with your Laundry Egg bobbing along, and agitate the water every 5 minutes by shaking your egg in the water whilst you hand wash your clothes.
Take your egg out of the machine and give it a little breathing time – this prevents any nasties getting in. Your egg becomes especially happy and fragrant when it is left on the window side basking in the sunlight or in an egg cup holder stuck to your washing machine – treat your egg as you would like to be treated 😉
Our Laundry Egg uses vegan-friendly ingredients and contains a no nasties formula of NO enzymes, chlorine bleaches, phosphates, parabens, SLS/SLES or palm oil. Read the full ingredients list underneath the egg product here.
Never fear! Your laundry egg can be used in ALL washing machine capacities (PHEW).
Our laundry egg can be used in most washing machine brands, including most High-efficiency washers and dual washer dryers. For HE washing machines, if your laundry is sitting in “water” in between rotations, then it will work effectively. This will depend on the type of HE washing machine you have!
Make sure you do not leave your egg in during the drying cycle as it is not made for drying machines (leave that to the Dryer Eggs).
